HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (June 8, 2024) – Carolina Ascent FC and South Georgia Tormenta FC split points on Saturday evening at the Community School of Davidson’s Spartan Athletic Complex with a final score of 1-1.
South Georgia Tormenta FC got the first strike of the match after a breakaway led to a shot on frame. Goalkeeper #1 Sejal Johnson got a hand on it to tip the ball up and out of play. Back to back corners were awarded for Tormenta, however they were unable to convert.
Carolina Ascent FC saw their first shots on goal in the 14th minute by #33 Jaida McGrew and in the 18th minute by #25 Kennedy Jones.
A cross from the left wing in the 31st minute led to Tormenta’s first goal of the night. #23 Courtney Chocol gained the attacking position and used her body to bury it in the back of the net.
Just minutes later, Carolina Ascent’s #34 Bri Morris threaded a through ball to McGrew. Her first touch beat the defender and placed her at the penalty spot. McGrew’s shot was low, forcing a diving save by the Tormenta goalkeeper.

Carolina Ascent put the pressure on early in the second half. A corner kick in the 49th minute taken by #24 Kat Gonzalez found #30 Audrey Harding whose header snuck just over the goal line to tie up the match.
The hosts came knocking again in the 62nd minute off a cross from #5 Sam Whitaker to #17 Kennedy Bell. She got a touch on it, but not enough power to get it past the Tormenta keeper.
Tormenta earned a couple free kicks and corner kicks towards the end of the match, but Carolina Ascent did well to defend and earn a point at home.
